Npcap adds several new features to those existing in WinPcap, including loopback traffic capture. Npcap is an update of WinPcap using NDIS 6 Light-Weight Filter (LWF), done by Yang Luo for Nmap project during Google Summer of Code 20. Summary: you can capture on the loopback interface on Linux, on various BSDs including macOS, and on Digital/Tru64 UNIX, and you might be able to do it on Irix and AIX, but you definitely cannot do so on Solaris, HP-UX, or Windows without Npcap. See CaptureSetup/NetworkMedia for Wireshark capturing support on various platforms. You will only see it if you capture on the "loopback interface", if there is such an interface and it is possible to capture on it see the next section for information on the platforms on which you can capture on the "loopback interface". This means that you will not see it if you are trying to capture on, for example, the interface device for the adapter to which the destination address is assigned. If you are trying to capture traffic from a machine to itself, that traffic will not be sent over a real network interface, even if it's being sent to an address on one of the machine's network adapters. If you need Wireshark for a different operating system and to download other older versions, you may visit Wireshark Downloads. The following will explain capturing on loopback interfaces a bit. It supports Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8. For the 64-bit version, download Wireshark 1.10.7 圆4. To make sure you are using the latest version, download Wireshark 1.10.7 x86. Since Wireshark 1.10.0 is very old released on June 2013, it is already outdated thinking that there are already different updates that came after it. And if you have 圆4 Windows 7, don’t install the 32-bit version of Wireshark to make sure it’ll work properly.

So, if you’ll be installing 圆4 Wireshark 1.10.0, make sure you are also running 圆4 Windows 7. If you have a 64-bit Windows 7, normally, you can install a 32-bit application because the operating system runs it in 32-bit compatibility mode.īut because Wireshark has a 64-bit version, I’m not sure if the 32-bit version will work on 圆4 Windows 7.

Because Wireshark is being provided in two different versions, 32-bit and 64-bit, make sure you install the correct version on your computer. If you are installing the 64-bit version of Wireshark 1.10.0, make sure your operating system is also running on 64-bit.
